Introducing: "The Bad Christian Meme Corrector!"

I recently saw this meme posted by someone on Facebook, who had seen it posted by his friend and shared it.

Both of these men are involved in ministry with YWAM.

Here’s the bad meme:

*Irony Alert*

It took less than a minute to find the following photos posted by the two YWAM men who posted the above meme; notice how these depict classroom settings with a teacher at the front providing instruction:

This meme seems to teach the idea that Jesus wasn’t an academic teacher, that he was more of an action hero, someone who “actually did stuff!” As if he was always telling the disciples, “Come on guys-why are you all just sitting around? Let’s get out there and make it happen!”

But this idea is not something we see in the Bible. While it is true that Jesus was more than a teacher (He is our Savior), he was a teacher, and his teaching is extremely important! Yes, Jesus didn’t use the funny looking desks in the meme, but he clearly spent a great deal of time teaching people, and we should be students of his Word: The Holy Bible.

Seeing the crowds, He went up on the mountain, and when He sat down, His disciples came to Him. And He opened His mouth and TAUGHT them...
— Matthew 5:1-2 (Beginning of the Sermon on the Mount)
When Jesus had finished instructing His twelve disciples, He went on from there to TEACH and preach in their cities.
— Matthew 11:1
And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and was TEACHING. And they were astonished at His TEACHING, for He TAUGHT them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes.
— Mark 1:21-22
Again He began to TEACH beside the sea. And a very large crowd gathered about Him, so that He got into a boat and sat in it on the sea, and the whole crowd was beside the sea on the land.
— Mark 4:1
When He went ashore He saw a great crowd, and He had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And He began to TEACH them many things.
— Mark 6:34
And He was TEACHING DAILY in the temple.
— Luke 19:47
And beginning with Moses and all of the Prophets, He (Jesus) interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
— Luke 24:27 (When Jesus appeared on the road to Emmaus)

Now look at the Apostles in the Book of Acts:

And they devoted themselves to the apostle’s TEACHING and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
— Acts 2:42
And when they heard this, they entered the temple at daybreak and began to TEACH.
— Acts 5:12
And someone came and told them, ‘Look! The men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and TEACHING people.’
— Acts 5:25
But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, TEACHING and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.
— Acts 15:35
And he (Paul) stayed a year and six months, TEACHING the word of God among them.
— Acts 18:11
He (Paul) lived there two years at his own expense, and welcomed all who came to him, proclaiming the kingdom of God and TEACHING about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance.
— Acts 28:30-31
